What is a raw food diet?
Living on raw food means that your food was not altered in a way that modifies the structure of your food. For example if you heat your food beyond a certain temperature the bonds of the molecules will change and it has different effects on our bodies. Our body thinks this food, that has entered our system is an intruder and tries to cope it in various ways to reduce it’s toxicity. No living being beside humans is trying to heat it’s food and we are doing that only for a relatively short period of time, maybe 10,000 years, a small timeframe compared to the more than 10 Million years of our existence.
Most of our illnesses stem from waste products of things we put into our body, it’s a burden we carry by being careless of our food choice.
Heating food of course also has an impact on all nutrients in it. Vitamins, organic minerals and enzymes as well as most of the other know and unknown phytonutrients get destroyed while cooking.
Frying even has a higher impact on us because of the higher temperature, we are talking about carcinogenic substances here.
What is a raw vegan diet?
Being a raw vegan means that you are living on a plant based and raw diet and are not consuming any animal derived food (like meat, dairy, honey, etc.)
Your diet consists basically of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. You are not heating your food above certain temperatures.
What is the 80-10-10 raw vegan lifestyle?
Now you may wonder what the 80-10-10 lifestyle is. It’s basically thriving on a fruit based raw vegan diet, while getting 80% or more of one’s calories from carbohydrates, 10% or less of calories from plant proteins and 10% or less of calories from fat. These percentages can vary over days or weeks, but should match over the course of a year.
You are feasting mainly on sweet fruits, leafy green vegetables, non-sweet fruits and other vegetables. We eat fatty fruits, nuts and seeds in moderation.
You don’t want to get a lot of extra fat in your system, because it will clog your blood vessels and hinders the sugar from your sweet fruits to leave your bloodstream und thus force the pancreas to produce more insulin, which may cause problems like diabetes on the long run.
You neither want a lot of complex carbohydrates because it causes the body to work extra hard to break them down to simple carbohydrates, the fuel we are designed for by nature.
But the 80-10-10 lifestyle isn't only about diet. It’s also about getting a proper amount of sleep, clean air, sunshine on your whole body, clean water and wholesome thoughts. Basically everything what every sentient being, that is in the least similar to us needs on this planet.
